The
Jesus Sadhana, a Daily Practice for Reaching Christ
In ancient Tibet, the word sadhana, referred to a daily practice that
a person would do at home, in a private corner, in order to make direct
contact with a divine being like Christ.
A sadhana practice includes seven different steps. These are called
the Respect, the Gift, the Opening, the Gladness, the Asking, the Invitation,
and the Sending.
In a sadhana, these steps are combined with meditation, special sacred
gestures of the hands, offerings of water and flowers, quiet simple
chants, and also the ringing of a unique kind of bell—all in
a graceful daily ceremony that we do ourselves, before we get up and
jump into the work of the day.
A sadhana is a special time of the day that we reserve for being in
contact with the higher powers. Learning to do a daily sadhana leaves
us refreshed and peaceful to face our day. If we do a sadhana well,
we can actually begin to make contact with Jesus, and to actually have
Him at our side during the entire day—to ask for what we need,
and to actually be guided directly.
This course in how to do a sadhana was taught by Geshe Michael Roach
and Lama Christie McNally, who between them have spent over 20 years
in Tibetan monasteries. The Jesus Sadhana is a teaching is based on
one that was written by the teacher of the First Dalai Lama, who lived
over 500 years ago.
